BATTLE OF LAKE ERIE, COMMODORE O.H. PERRYS VICTORY, GAINED SEPT 10TH 1813
His ship the “Lawrence” a wreck. Master Commandant Oliver H. Perry rowed over to the Niagara to continue the battle. Still flying from the main stump is Perry’s battle flag “Don’t give up the ship”. These were the last words of Capt. J. Lawrence who was slain on the Chesapeake during a battle with HMS Shannon.
